빠르고 효과적으로 암세포 사멸을 유발할 수 있는 새로운 플라즈마 암치료법이

발견되었다.

플라즈마는 태양과 별을 구성하며, 우주에서 가장 흔한 물질이다.

​

최근 상온에 가까운 이온화 기체인 상온 대기압 플라즈마(CAP)가 정상세포는

손상이 없이, 암 세포의 성장을 억제하는 항암치료제로서 각광을 받고 있다.

​

중국 과학원 산하 허페이 물리과학원 연구진들은 CAP(Cold Atmosphere Plasma)

치료제가 염증 분자에 의해 유발되는 화농증을 세포자살로 유도할 수 있다는 사실을

발견했다.

​

"플라즈마 치료법은 암 발생과 확산을 늦추기 보다는 다른 방사선 치료법보다

암세포를 더 빠르게 공격적으로 죽인다."고 허웨이 선임연구원이 말했다.

​

담당교수는 "CAP가 암세포에게 살해 능력을 전달하면, 암 세포막에 구멍을 내는

칼과 같은 역할을 할 수 있는 GSDME 단백질을 활성화하는 것"이라고 말했다.

​

"세포 막이 파열되면 암세포는 죽는다."

​

플라즈마 불꽃에 의한 암세포 사멸은 또한 경보 신호를 발생시킬 수 있어,

면역체계가 암세포를 인식하고 외부 침입자처럼 죽일 수 있다.

이번 연구 결과는 국제학술지 '세포 사멸과 질병'에 실렸다.

Plasma effective in killing cancer cells

A new plasma method has been discovered that can induce rapid, effective even violent cancer-cell death.

​

Plasma makes up the sun and stars and is the most common state of matter in the universe.

In recent years, cold atmospheric plasma, an ionized gas close to room temperature, has been recognized

as a novel, promising anti-cancer treatment that inhibits cancer growth with less damage to normal cells.

​

Researchers at the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science under the Chinese Academy of Sciences found the

CAP therapy can induce pyroptosis, also called fiery cell death, which is triggered by inflammation molecules.

​

Rather than slowing the growth and spread of cancer, the plasma method kills cancer cells more rapidly and

aggressively than other radiation therapies, said lead researcher Han Wei.

​

“After CAP delivers its cancer-killing power to a cancer cell, it will activate a GSDME protein that can function

as a knife that pokes holes in the cell membrane,” Han said. “When the membrane ruptures, the cancer cell will die.”

​

The fiery death of cancer cells can also initiate an alarm signal, allowing the immune system to recognize cancer

cells and kill them as invaders.

​

The results of the study were published in the international journal Cell Death and Disease.
